But as Twitter user @wholegrainne noticed, something didn’t quite add up…

If Lochte’s previous tweets were to be believed, this was the third year in a row that Carter Lochte was celebrating his 8th birthday.

Here he is wishing Carter a happy 8th birthday in 2014.
